A bipartisan group of US lawmakers is calling for immediate action by the US Permanent Representative to the United Nations, in order for the Security Council to take action on the "aggressive, illegal and unilateral" opening of Varosia by Turkey.

In particular, New York MP Nikol Malliotaki, abbot of a cross-party parliamentary group, sent a letter to US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas Greenfield urging the Security Council to take immediate action against Turkey for its "aggressive, open-minded" and "illegal, illegal" approach.

The letter refers to the unprovoked invasion of Turkey in Cyprus and expresses concern about the illegal Turkish actions for opening Varos in violation of a series of Security Council resolutions.

"As Ambassador to the United Nations, it is imperative that you act in coordination with your colleagues in the Security Council and the General Assembly to implement the declared UN policies and to address the growing threat from Turkey, ensuring the final return of Varos to the EU." owners and residents ", is mentioned in the letter which is signed by the deputies Malliotakis, Maloni, Bilirakis, Fitzpatrick, Titus, Papas, Tsitsiline, Waltz, Sarbanis, Pallone, Magkavern and Leeds.

"Given your long-standing support for refugee communities around the world, we are confident that you will use your position in the UN to defend the rights of Greek Cypriot residents in Varos."

It is recalled that in May, on the initiative of Ms. Malliotaki, a bipartisan resolution was tabled calling on the Joe Biden administration to condemn the illegal Turkish occupation and encouraging the US government to put the reunification of Cyprus among the priorities of US foreign policy.
