The 31-year-old, according to the Police, is being investigated for conspiracy to commit a crime, aiding and abetting the illegal entry, transit and illegal stay in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus of a third country national, smuggling of migrants by sea or smuggling . During the interrogation, the 31-year-old named a second person of his compatriot, aged 41, against whom an arrest warrant has been issued and he is wanted.
According to the Police, a 22-year-old man who is in Cyprus with the status of a political asylum seeker was reported to the Paphos Police Department that together with another person they gave a 31-year-old man in Cyprus 950 euros to help transport their relatives. from Lebanon by boat to Ayia Napa.
During the interrogation, the 31-year-old reported to the investigating authorities that he gave the money he received from the complainants to another 41-year-old person.
According to the Police, after examinations it was found that on August 22 in two boats the said persons arrived in Ayia Napa. As part of an agreement with Lebanon on the repatriation of migrants arriving in Cyprus, a boat was chartered with 88 people on board and departed accompanied by a Coast Guard and Maritime Police officer.
