Kadris and his Greek counterparts discussed Kadima with Anombaria and Cypriot potatoes

The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Costas Kadis, has been paying a three-day visit to Athens since yesterday.

During his visit to the Greek capital, Mr. Kadis had important contacts with his counterparts on agriculture and the environment, Evangelos Apostolos and Socrates Famellos.

In the meeting with Mr. Apostolou, Mr. Kadis focused on the issue of drought facing Cyprus and its impact on agriculture, while informing his counterpart that the Republic of Cyprus intends to support the affected farmers with all the appropriate measures. At the same time, Mr. Kadis informed Mr. Apostolou that Cyprus will raise the issue in the next Council of Ministers of Agriculture of the EU, asking for support through the competent European bodies. In addition, they discussed cooperation and measures to deal with the trade in Cypriot potatoes in the Greek market, while a decision was taken to sign an agreement between the Veterinary Services of Cyprus and the Animal Health Directorate of Greece, for bilateral cooperation in matters related to Transportation. In the meeting with the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Socrates Famellos, the efforts to deal with climate change and the collaborations that can be developed at bilateral and regional level were discussed. The two Ministers also discussed the issue of strengthening the cooperation between Cyprus and Greece for the prevention of forest fires but also for the restoration of natural ecosystems after fire. The two countries' further cooperation on biodiversity conservation issues was also highlighted, as well as the organization of a special laboratory in Cyprus, in which good practices of management and conservation of important species and habitats, as well as areas of the Natura 2000 network will be presented. The meeting also agreed that the two countries would work together to implement the Naval Strategy Framework Directive.

At the same time, it was agreed to hold a meeting of technocrats in Greece with the aim of coordinating the two countries in determining the environmental situation in the waters of Cyprus and Greece.

At the same time, Mr. Kadis participated and addressed a greeting at the 1st International Conference on UNESCO World Geoparks in Greece-Cyprus, on the promotion and management of geological heritage, while today and tomorrow, he will attend the inauguration of the Environmental Information Center.
