DIKO: DISY government is ineffective in both managing the pandemic and supporting the economy

DIKO characterizes the Government of DISY as ineffective both in the management of the pandemic and in the support of the economy, with its announcement.

The announcement

The most important measure to support the Cypriot economy is the effective management of the pandemic.

The health of the world is paramount.

And then comes the health of the economy.

Unfortunately today, both are sick because of the inefficiency and sloppiness shown by the DISY government.

We now have a second wave of pandemics that is worse than the first and a third wave is not ruled out. Inevitably, the new restrictive measures, especially in the busiest month of the year, December, will hit catering, consumer, service and more businesses.

A blow that, for thousands of small and medium-sized businesses, is catastrophic.

As a Democratic Party, we insist that immediate, effective measures must be taken to support the economy, workers, small and medium-sized enterprises and the vulnerable groups of our population.

Among the measures proposed by DIKO are:

• Rent subsidy for companies whose operation is limited due to restrictive measures
• Restoration of the State Guarantee Bill, amounting to € 1.5 billion, as amended by the Democratic Party.
• Operation of a Small and Medium Enterprise Financing Fund, which will be financed by the relevant European programs.

For the two above, DIKO and AKEL, DISY issued a relevant announcement in which it states that DIKO and AKEL with their words prove that they are a champion duo in populism. However, the amnesia that characterizes them is not contagious.

The announcement

If DIKO is looking every day for something new to blame the government and DISY and now it is the turn of the pandemic management, it obviously forgot that until its outbreak we had left behind the destructive policies of the AKEL government and were moving forward with steady growth rates.

On the other hand, if AKEL forgets that only recently its MP starred in a video-apotheosis of corruption, let them be sure that neither we nor the society forgets it.

The announcement of DISY for the new measures

The government today announced a new package of measures to address the pandemic. We fully understand the difficulties and fatigue that our fellow citizens feel. However, the data do not leave much room.

That is why we must, in these difficult times for all of us, look strong and, above all, act responsibly.

The good news about the start of vaccinations gives us all hope that the best days are even closer.

EDEK: Failure of the Government to reduce the diaspora

EDEK makes a statement about the failure of the Government to limit the dispersion with its announcement.

The announcement

Both the government and the epidemiological team have failed to limit the spread of the pandemic and its economic, social and psychological impact on citizens.

We listened very carefully to the new measures announced by the government as well as the expansion of the existing ones.

Judging by the result:

• the significant increase in the number of deaths of our compatriots (48 people in the last month alone),
• the large increase in the number of patients and the burden on the health system that has reached its limits,
• the serious social and psychological consequences of the extension of the measures on citizens,
• the additional impact on economic activity and the huge impact on self-employed workers and especially on small and medium-sized family businesses,
• the need to subsidize sectors of the economy from the money of the taxpayer and the risks of derailment of the economy of our country,
We note that both the government and the epidemiological team have failed to limit the spread of the pandemic and the aforementioned effects.

Unfortunately, there will be no normal opening of the market in view of Christmas, nor will the citizens be able to celebrate the celebration of Christmas and the New Year in relatively satisfactory conditions.

ELAM: Economy at a dead end with the new measures

The new measures of the Government regarding the confrontation of the coronavirus epidemic, as the previous ones, lead the economy to a dead end, ELAM states in its announcement.

The announcement

As the National Popular Front (ELF), we emphasize for the umpteenth time the need for a balanced economic policy to manage the epidemic. As we stressed from the very first meeting, market liquidity must be maintained and employment must be safeguarded, by protecting businesses and all employees, by taking measures to support the real economy.

In closing, we must remind all political forces and MPs who today react to the decrees, that they were the ones who by their vote gave the power to the Council of Ministers to issue decrees imposing measures and fines. ELAM was the only parliamentary party that protected Democracy, voting against.
