Following today's announcement of the Cyprus Society of Pathology, which refers to the recent suggestion of the Ministry of Health for the contribution of Personal Physicians in the effort to vaccinate a larger percentage of the population, the Ministry of Health wishes to clarify the following:

  1. According to the contract they maintain with the Health Insurance Organization and the remuneration they receive, GPs (Children or Adults) give vaccines to their beneficiaries included in the National Vaccination Scheme, such as influenza A vaccines or pediatric vaccines, etc. Therefore, having the necessary know-how, they must maintain the infrastructure for vaccination in their clinics.
  2. In this case and because the vaccines against it COVID-19 not included in the National Vaccination Scheme, the Ministry of Health will reimburse the participating doctors at the amount of 10 euros per beneficiary who will be vaccinated in their clinics.
  3. In no case this suggestion does not aim to turn clinics into Vaccination Centers, let alone endanger the safety of patients. In the midst of a pandemic and mutual acceptance that vaccinations should proceed rapidly, The aim is to give citizens different options and to serve them as soon as possible.
  4. The Ministry of Health has never claimed that the participation of Personal Physicians in the procedure is mandatory and does not aim to abolish the operation of clinics. Participation is voluntary and aims to better and faster service to their beneficiaries.

At the critical point where we are in terms of pandemic management, we should everyone, from any position, to contribute to the exit of the country from the difficult conditions and the gradual restart of the society and the economy.

Expected by Personal Physicians, at spirit of cooperation shown so far, to do their duty, assisting the State in this endeavor, in the interest of all citizens.

What the Cyprus Society of Pathology said

The Cyprus Society of Pathology considers that it is not possible for a doctor's office, in the current circumstances, to function as a vaccination center and at the same time to offer high quality medical services to all patients, who must serve and invite its members to act at will, with the only criterion is the well-understood interest of the patients.

In its announcement today, on the occasion of the proposal for vaccinations by personal physicians in their clinics, the Cyprus Society of Pathology states that this proposal abolishes the operation of clinics as a place for examination of patients and makes them "temporary, insufficient, without infrastructure and dangerous for patient safety vaccination centers ".

In relation to the rumors that are leaked about the remuneration of doctors per vaccine, the Cyprus Society of Pathology responds that "nothing more untrue".
"No fee is negotiable for our company when it is taken at the expense of the safety of our patients, in the midst of a pandemic," he notes.

He adds that "solutions exist and it is finally time to seek the opinion of combat doctors, so that they can be found", adding that "decisions made behind closed doors of offices, without contact with the real world, only do no good in such critical hours ».

"In such serious decisions, we believe that before they are taken, it is advisable to discuss and consult with the respective scientific companies whose members make up the primary health care in Cyprus", he concludes.
