The United Kingdom Government today (Monday) launched a major information campaign calling on British citizens living in Cyprus to prepare for Brexit on 31 October. The campaign is part of a broader information effort across Europe.

According to a press release from the British High Commission, British citizens in Cyprus will receive information on specific actions they need to take regarding their residence, insurance, driving licenses and passports in order to retain their rights and their access to Cypriot services.

The campaign will use many communication channels - from Facebook posts to media ads - calling on citizens to take action in the run-up to October 31st.

The British High Commission has already taken a series of actions in recent months to inform British citizens. Among other things, open rallies were held in all provinces, while many messages were transmitted either through traditional media or on our social media channels.

According to Foreign Minister Dominique Rabb, the Government is stepping up its efforts to ensure that the British in the EU are ready for Brexit on 31 October, adding that the campaign provides practical advice to more than 1 million Britons living in the EU, as well as to British tourists and business travelers.

It is estimated that about 85 thousand Britons are in Cyprus.

The UK Government recently announced a £ 3 million budget for charities and other voluntary organizations to inform British citizens of the need to register or apply for a residence permit and to assist them in completing their applications.

The government, according to the press release, has committed another £ 300,000 to British diplomatic missions across the EU to reach vulnerable British citizens who may be suffering from disabilities or living in remote areas or who need extra assistance to complete appropriate documents in view of Brexit.

This additional aid is added to the efforts of the British diplomatic missions, which have already organized more than 541 events for British citizens since November 2017.
