The Lecturer of Pediatrics at the European University of Cyprus and member of the Advisory Scientific Committee (SCC) of the Ministry of Health, Zoe Dorothea Pana, spoke on the front page about the balances that must be observed in relation to the relaxation of the measures.

In particular, he said that an initial discussion took place between the members of the Advisory Scientific Committee on how to move in relation to the management of the pandemic. He stressed that practically no one disputes that we are in a pandemic wave and we are even entering a phase of giving small relaxations, but maintaining a delicate balance.

Moreover, in her statements to KYPE, she had said that "we must have a discussion on the whole and see what we can simplify, how we can help the world that has suffered so much and together find a harmonization in this context." .

He explained that the differences we see in the strategies of the countries are a sign of uncertainty. There are many factors, for example the countries are at a different point in relation to the outbreak of Omicron. He also stressed that a country can proceed with the lifting of restrictive measures if it was shortly before the lockdown. On the contrary, he noted that as Cyprus we kept a balance in relation to the measures.

He pointed out that the relaxations must be done in a context that will not take us back and the wrong message must not be passed on to the world. "We all need relaxation, but we continue to be in a pandemic wave in the winter," he said.

Regarding what is said about the endemic phase, he said that there are scenarios that the pandemic will transition to an endemic phase but we expect to see what the evolution will be. Other countries that rushed found it in front of them.

Asked if the Delta mutation was over, he said that we have a peculiarity with this upsurge, since the Delta lurks below Omicron. What will happen when the Omicron wave practically subsides, there will be a Delta Rise or a recession along with the Omicron.

Finally, he said that "we have been denied many times the pandemic and the insidious virus that is spreading with the mask of Omicron. "The indicators do not show us that we have an endemic at this stage."
