A person who used bird trapping nets was arrested last Saturday by the Police of the British Bases of Dhekelia.

According to an announcement by the Bases, the arrest was made by the Community Action Group. Police reportedly discovered a network attached to metal pipes, an MP3 player, a loudspeaker, a "USB", a remote receiver, which are used by trappers to attract vultures to their nets.

According to the announcement, the arrested person was interrogated by the Police and was released on bail of € 1000.

It is added that the date of the procedure before the court is pending where the suspect will respond to accusations regarding the Law on Prey and Wild Birds.

Assistant Police Director Andreas Pitsillidis said the arrest showed that although the era of illegal trapping began in late August, "the police are here and are already working with our partners in the Committee against Bird Slaughter (CABS)." As reported in recent years, the rate of bird trapping in British Bases has dropped significantly and Dhekelia Police Chief Jon Ward said: "Bird trapping will never be tolerated and we intend to build on last year's success. year and we will continue to work towards the goal of eliminating this crime in our areas ".
