Paphos Police attributes yesterday's grenade explosion outside the residence of a private doctor from Paphos to financial disputes, according to the Spokesperson of the Paphos Police and Head of the Paphos TAE, Michalis Ioannou.

In his statements to KYPE, Mr. Ioannou stated that the Police issued two arrest warrants against two persons, aged 73 and 46, from Paphos, with whom the complainant allegedly had financial disputes.

Mr. Ioannou stated that around 19:00 yesterday there was an explosion in front of an apartment building in the center of Paphos. Police went to the scene and cordoned off the scene, and initial investigations revealed that the explosion was due to a high-powered military-type grenade.

The blast continued, causing damage to the building and extensive damage to the complainant's vehicle, which was parked in the semi-basement parking lot. Also, a second vehicle belonging to the same family was slightly damaged.

The Spokesperson of the Paphos Police Department stated that from the first examinations, the motives of the perpetrators are sought in the business activity of the owner of the house that is not related to his medical function.

Members of TAE Paphos received evidence from the scene that has been guarded by the Police since last night, while today additional examinations will be held at the place.

According to Mr. Ioannou, the Police is evaluating the closed monitoring circuits in the area. As he said, from some closed circuits that were examined yesterday, it was found that the movements of two people who were riding a motorcycle have been recorded, from which the passenger of the motorcycle throws the grenade at the residence of the complainant.

Due to the darkness, however, he continued, it does not appear if the two alleged perpetrators were wearing helmets.

The examinations, said Mr. Ioannou, started again with the first light of day by members of TAE Paphos.
