The prospects for the Cypriot shipping in 2022 are auspicious, says the Deputy Minister of Shipping Vassilis Dimitriadis, who indicates that the shipping industry has proved resilient to the pandemic. Mr. Dimitriadis made statements after his visit on Wednesday morning to the crews of the ships that are docked in the port of Limassol.

According to the Deputy Minister of Shipping, his visit to the port of Limassol took place "as an act of minimal appreciation to the sailors for their offer and role in the global vaccination chain, an appreciation which was accompanied by the offer of traditional Cypriot delicacies".

As he said, Cyprus has an essential role in dealing with the pandemic "as with practical actions it managed to help the sailors, in the change of crews and repatriation of 55 thousand sailors. We have on our initiative presented a global vaccination program which was voted on by the International Labor Organization. "Since June, the Council of Ministers has approved a vaccination program for 40 sailors, which is in progress."

Referring to the Cypriot shipping, he said that he has kept its contribution to the Cypriot economy at the same levels, before the pandemic, and expressed the appreciation that in the new year the prospects for better days will be created. "I believe that the new year with the implementation of the actions we had announced last October, creates the prospects for even better days for Cypriot shipping," he said.
