The Deputy Director of the Prisons Department Ioannis Kapnoullas made clarifications regarding the introduction of mobile phones and drugs into the prison area with his announcement on Thursday.

As reported, on 20/12/2023 during the systematic check that vehicles are subjected to before entering the prison area, both by electronic means and by specially trained dogs, a truck was detected by prison guards that was about to enter the fenced area of ​​the prison , hidden under the chassis of the vehicle micro-parcel of unknown content.

It is added that the YKAN and the TAE of Nicosia were immediately notified and that, after it was opened by the Police, it was found that there were three mobile phones and chargers in it, with the Police continuing the examinations to identify their origin.

In relation to the report of placing mobile phones or drugs inside soccer balls and throwing them into Wings, it is reported that the method in question was detected again by Prison Guards and it was found that the attempt to import was made from an area not controlled by the Prisons and not by any controlled area within the Prison Department.

It is added that additional security measures were immediately taken in order to prevent a similar incident from happening again and all the items found were handed over to the Police for investigation purposes.
