On the occasion of the completion, this year, of 50 years of possession of 37% of Cyprus, the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus decided on Monday that, by next month, the Holy Metropolises should submit the program for special events, which will take place in each Metropolis throughout 2024.

According to an announcement by the Archdiocese, the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus met today, Monday, in an extraordinary session, under the chairmanship of the Archbishop of Cyprus Georgios and honored, on the occasion of the anniversary of the Union Referendum of 1950, with a minute's silence, the memory of the protagonists of that of the national initiative, i.e. the then Archbishop of Cyprus Makarios II, the Metropolitans of Paphos Kleopas, Kitios Makarios and Kyrenia Kyprianos and the Rural Bishop of Salamis Georgios.

At the same time, he discussed, in detail, "ways in which the fighting spirit of the people will be emphasized and the cultivation of the desire to return to the ancestral lands, on the occasion of the completion, this year, of 50 years of possession of 37% of our homeland".

He decided that, by next month, the program for special events, which will take place in each Metropolis throughout 2024, should be submitted by the Holy Metropolises.

He also decided to address the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, with the request to ensure that each Diocese includes in its program for 2024 similar events, which took place in 2021 for the 200 years since the Greek Revolution.

The same will be addressed to the Metropolises of Crete, the Dodecanese and the Greek Metropolises around the world.

The Holy Synod was informed by the Director of KET/ETEK, Ioannis Harilaou, about the Clerical Clergy Salary Agency, after the statement of the Archbishop, that the Holy Archdiocese will not be able to continue contributing to the Agency the amounts it has contributed to date, and discussed ways of contributing to the Organization from other Metropolises or Monasteries that have the financial capacity.

He decided, at the same time, "I was acting in a humanitarian manner, putting an end to the last echo of the ecclesiastical division of the past, by posthumously lifting the demotion of the former Metropolitan of Kyrenia Kyprianos, as he had previously done for the former Metropolitan of Kitios Anthimos".

The Holy Synod decided that like Christmas, Orthros with the Divine Liturgy begins at 06:30 am. instead of 05: 00, as was done until today.

Finally, he decided to allow for the year 2024 the celebration of the sacrament of marriage until December 12, 2024.
