The Minister of Transport, Communication and Works made statements on issues related to the responsibilities of his Ministry yesterday before the meeting with the Mayors of Larnaca District.

Regarding the signing of the Agreement on buses, Mr. Karousos said the following: "We are waiting for the decisions of the Court. As you know, almost all companies have gone to court. Several cases are pending. I believe that within the next two weeks we will have a decision for all cases and depending on the decision we will proceed and sign with the successful bidder for the implementation of the Contract. Certainly the new Contracts will change a lot, the service will improve, there will be more and more frequent itineraries.

As for the seat belts on the buses, we plan to bring a bus that will have child seats. This bus can be seen by parents, MPs and anyone else interested so that we can see that child seats can be installed on the buses. Then the Parliament will decide on what it will do regarding the issue of child seats and seat belts on buses ".

Asked about this, the Minister said that similar buses exist in several countries. "The issue of the safety of young children must be a priority and we will not be the ones to repeal this Law as we pay special attention to the safety and especially to the safety of young children. As the experts told us, child seats can be installed on buses, there are already buses in Cyprus that offer this service and road safety must be a priority. " concluded Mr. Karousos.
