The investigations of the Police regarding the case of fraud reported by a 73-year-old woman against a 36-year-old gynecologist in Limassol, who was detained yesterday for two days, are in full swing.

According to the 73-year-old, after visiting the 36-year-old gynecologist at the doctor's office where she is staying, for health issues, the latter seems to have judged that the elderly woman needed surgery to remove a uterus.

After the alleged surgery, a few months later, the 73-year-old had to be hospitalized in a private hospital for another health issue.
There, according to the complaint, she had been informed by a gynecologist of the hospital that she needed the same surgery where she had previously suffered from the 36-year-old.

After an examination of the 73-year-old by a private doctor, it was found that she had not undergone the operation to remove the uterus.

During the investigation of the case, a medical file was received from the Limassol Medical Center, in which the suspect filled in the discharge document of the complainant and in which it is stated that she was hospitalized for two days, while the 73-year-old stated that she was hospitalized only for one day.

In the court, where the 36-year-old was taken, it was reported that due to the intervention of the family, the suspect issued another discharge document, with a different medical opinion from the original one.

Speaking on SIGMA's "Protoselido" show, the Police Spokesman, Christos Andreou, noted that the investigators are proceeding with the investigation of the case as well as the allegations of the 36-year-old gynecologist.

During the interrogation, the 36-year-old denied any involvement and gave her own allegations about the operation to the complainant, as well as the compensation applications and the discharge she submitted to the OAU.

The Police receives testimonies from both the family and the professional environment of the Gynecologist, while investigations will be carried out in other places to determine what results.

As Mr. Andreou noted, the Police sent to the Ministry of Health for expertise from another doctor, to determine if other offenses occur, such as that of medical negligence.

Research by OAY

Commenting on the events on the show Mesimeri kai Kati, the Senior Officer of OAY, Maria Kythreotou stated that the organization is in the process of suspending the contract of this particular doctor in order to proceed with an investigation from the information that will be received by the Police.

"In the coming days we will have to suspend the contract and an investigating officer will be appointed. "His conclusion will be conveyed to the director of the organization who will then decide either to terminate or lift the suspension depending on the conclusions of the investigation," he said.

Reaction PIS

Speaking about the case on SIGMA's show "Protoselido", the Vice President of PIS Athos Georgiou, stated that the Association does not intend to cover anyone who committed even the slightest fraud.

With such incidents, as he said, "the doctor-patient relationship is in doubt and we will not allow this."

He noted that the PIS is not an investigative body, awaits the investigation of the Police and will act accordingly.

The Police must do their job and bring the facts to light and the PIS will take the measures arising from the legislation, he noted.
