The data around the coronavirus are now running at breakneck speed, as the spread of the virus in Europe and the confirmation of the first case in a 38-year-old in Greece, make the need for drastic measures by the Cypriot authorities urgent. It is no coincidence that today, before the Council of Ministers, proposals are expected to be submitted regarding the taking of harsh measures and strict restrictions on roadblocks, which were discussed yesterday during the meeting of the inter-ministerial Committee. One of these proposals concerns the possibility of closing specific roadblocks at night, while a second proposal submitted by the Minister of Health Konstantinos Ioannou concerned the application of transit restrictions so that only Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots are allowed to travel through the roadblocks, since The presence in the occupied territories of an increasing number of nationals (mainly from Iran) in whom cases of coronavirus have been reported is of particular concern.

These proposals, as informed by Philenews, were accepted by a portion of the participants in the meeting, however the four ministries only announced their decision to strengthen the staff at the checkpoints and the discussion is expected to continue today at the Ministry, which will also be invited by the Minister of Health to issue decrees ordering a private and a government building for the operation of an asymptomatic accommodation.

However, the experts warned early yesterday morning that the entry of the coronavirus in Cyprus is now a matter of hours and pointed out the fact that ignorance prevails among the Cypriot citizens which leads to panic.

The need for informing the public was identified by the Ministry of Health and it prepared informative videos and printed material which will be distributed in the coming days to all households.
