Cases remain at alarmingly high levels. The numbers that are announced daily show that the problem may have receded from the District of Limassol and Paphos, but it erupted in the other Provinces.

Free Famagusta and Nicosia have been at the center of the new wave for the last 10 days or so, with the Ministry of Health and the epidemiological team closely monitoring the development.

For about a week now, Cyprus has been living in a new regime of stricter measures, mainly the ban on travel after 21.00 and the closure of restaurants from 19.00.

The Minister of Health himself, a guest the other day in the main bulletin of SIGMA, had stated that the evaluation for the possible partial lifting of the measures in view of the Holidays will be done next week.

SigmaLive contacted Dr. Leontios Kostrikis who expressed the view that cases remain at the same high levels. Dr. Kostrikis even expressed the position that perhaps a small extension should be given to the existing measures for evaluation purposes. As he explained the implementation of the measures will be seen in 14 days. "Once the measures were implemented on the 1st of the month, then the day we will see what we did will be on the 13th and 14th of December," he said. The small extension that may need to be given will help evaluate the effectiveness, concluded Dr. Kostrikis.
