The Ministry of Health announces that today, January 5 2022:
- 4 people died from the disease COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 649.
- 205 patients COVID-19 of which 70 are in serious condition. 80% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.
- 18 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized in intubated condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.
- A total of 130,076 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).
- 5,202 (positivity rate: 4%) new cases of the disease COVID-19 detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), raising the total number of cases in 188,380.
The current results are detailed.
A. Deaths from the disease COVID-19:
The 3 people who died with the ultimate cause of death being attributed to the disease COVID-19, relate to:
- Woman, 84 years old, who ended up on January 4 at Larnaca General Hospital.
- A man, 80 years old, who ended up on January 5 at the General Hospital of Nicosia.
- Woman, 58 years old, who ended up on January 5 in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.
- Woman, 91 years old, who ended up on January 5 at the Limassol General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with the ultimate cause of the disease COVID-19 amounts to 649, of which:
411 men (63,3%), and
- 429 women (66,1%).
The average age of those who die from the disease is 76 years.
B. Patients:
In total, 205 patients of the disease are treated in the hospitals of OKYPY COVID-19, of which 70 in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 70 patients in serious condition, 28 are intubated, 3 are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 39 to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive incidents Covid-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 130,076 diagnoses made, 14,588 were made by molecular method (PCR) and 115,488 by the method of antigen rapid test, 5202 cases of the disease were identified. COVID-19, which emerged as follows:
- 112 cases from 747 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
- 108 cases of 3,841 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 970 cases from 9,510 samples taken through private initiative.
- 63 cases from 467 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 2634 cases from 75,037 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 1315 cases from 40,451 samples examined by the method of antigen rapid test through the program of the Ministry of Health.
In addition, the following tests were performed, without detecting a case:
- The cases from 0 samples received within the program of referrals by Personal Doctors and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
- Cases of 0 samples taken as part of closed structure tests.
