The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 16 2021:
- 2 people died from the disease COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 616.
- 165 patients COVID-19 of which 51 are in serious condition. 75,76% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.
- 8 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized in intubated condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.
- A total of 87,028 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).
- 632 (positive rate: 0,73% new cases of the disease COVID-19 detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), raising the total number of cases in 143,510.
The current results are detailed.
A. Deaths from the disease COVID-19:
The 2 people who died with the ultimate cause of death being attributed to the disease COVID-19, relate to:
- A 75-year-old man, who ended up on December 16 at the Paphos General Hospital
- A 74-year-old man who died on December 16 at the General Hospital of Famagusta
Therefore, the total number of deaths with the ultimate cause of the disease COVID-19 amounts to 616, of which:
393 men (63,8%), and
- 223 women (36,2%).
The average age of those who die from the disease is 75,9 years.
B. Patients:
In total, 165 patients of the disease are treated in the hospitals of OKYPY COVID-19, of which 51 in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 51 patients in serious condition, 18 are intubated, 4 are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 29 to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive incidents Covid-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 87,028 diagnoses made, 8,762 were made by molecular method (PCR) and 78,266 by the method of antigen rapid test, 632 cases of the disease were identified. COVID-19, which emerged as follows:
- 110 cases from 1,359 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
- 30 cases of 4,607 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 72 cases from 2,416 samples taken through private initiative.
- 13 cases from 291 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 269 cases from 45,807 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 138 cases from 32,459 samples examined by the method of antigen rapid test through the program of the Ministry of Health.
In addition, the following tests were performed, without detecting a case:
- 0 cases from 89 samples received under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
