Two deaths of 87-year-olds - How many positive rapid tests were found in the province of Famagusta

The death of two patients with COVID-19. The ultimate cause of death is attributed to the disease COVID-19. Specifically, these are:

  • A woman, 87 years old, with underlying diseases, who was treated at the General Hospital of Nicosia.
  • An 87-year-old man with a serious medical history, who was treated at the General Hospital of Famagusta, after being transferred from the Ekali Rehabilitation Center in Limassol.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the ultimate cause of the disease COVID-19 amounts to 54, 36 men (67%) and 18 women (33%), with an average age of 76 years.

In addition, the Ministry of Health informs that a total of 9,923 tests were performed today to detect the disease COVID-19.

A. Molecular Test (PCRtest): Of the 9,923 laboratory tests, 3,525 laboratory diagnoses were performed by the molecular method (PCR), with 249 cases of the disease COVID-19, which emerged as follows:

  • Out of 697 samples taken through the process of tracking the contacts of already confirmed cases, 75 cases were identified.
  • Out of 1,378 samples taken through private initiative, 85 cases were identified.
  • From 328 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 29 cases were identified.
  • Out of 122 samples taken as part of the laboratory testing program carried out in nursing homes and other structures, 60 cases were identified.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were performed without detecting a case:

  • From samples taken in the context of passenger and repatriated control, 415 laboratory tests were performed,
  • From samples taken within the program of referrals by Personal Doctors and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics, 148 laboratory examinations were completed,
  • From samples taken under the Immigrant Structure Control Program, 19 laboratory tests were performed, and
  • From laboratory samples taken within the control program of students, teachers and school staff, 418 laboratory tests were performed.

B. Rapid antigen detection test (antigensfasttest): Of the 9,923 tests, 6,398 were performed using the rapid antigen detection method, with 162 positive results, identified as follows:

In addition, the positive result for 99 samples of positive results detected through the rapid antigen test method in the previous days. Positive rapid antigen detection tests confirmed by PCR are included in the total number of cases below.

Therefore, based on the data so far, the total number of cases is 11,523.
