The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 9 2021:

- 2 people died from the disease COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 607.

- 139 patients COVID-19 of which 44 are in serious condition. 76.65% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.

- 5 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized in intubated condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.

- A total of 87,780 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).

- 635 (positive rate: 0.72% new cases of the disease COVID-19 detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), raising the total number of cases in 139,368.

The current results are detailed.

A. Deaths from the disease COVID-19:

The 2 people who died with the ultimate cause of death being attributed to the disease COVID-19, relate to:

- A woman, aged 84, who ended up on December 9, 2021 in the Intensive Care Unit of the General Hospital of Nicosia.

- A woman, aged 86, who ended up in a nursing home on December 20, 2020.

Note that the second death of an 86-year-old woman occurred in 2020 and was found in the standard control performed by the Health Monitoring Unit in the context of registering the causes of death for the year 2020.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the ultimate cause of the disease COVID-19 amounts to 607, of which:

389 men (64.1%), and

- 218 women (35.9%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 75.8 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 139 patients of the disease are treated in the hospitals of OKYPY COVID-19, of which 44 in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 44 patients in serious condition, 15 are intubated, 4 are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 25 to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive incidents Covid-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 87,780 diagnoses made, 11,498 were made by molecular method (PCR) and 76,282 by the method of antigen rapid test, 635 cases of the disease were identified. COVID-19, which emerged as follows:

  • 114 cases from 1,234 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 11 cases of 3,879 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 100 cases from 6,014 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 7 cases from 297 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 274 cases from 44,751 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 128 cases from 31,531 samples examined by the method of antigen rapid test through the program of the Ministry of Health.
  • 1 case from 74 samples taken under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
