CYPRUS: Two deaths and 917 new cases

168 patients of the disease COVID-19 62 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions

The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 24 2021:

- 2 people died from the disease COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 627.

- 168 patients COVID-19 of which 62 are in serious condition. 76,2% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.

- 14 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized in intubated condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.

- A total of 112,532 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).

- 917 (positive rate: 0,81% new cases of the disease COVID-19 detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), raising the total number of cases in 149,580.

The current results are detailed.

A. Deaths from the disease COVID-19:

The 2 people who died with the ultimate cause of death being attributed to the disease COVID-19, relate to:

- A 91-year-old man, who ended up on December 23 in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.

- A 91-year-old man, who ended up on December 24 at the Limassol General Hospital

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the ultimate cause of the disease COVID-19 amounts to 627, of which:

400 men (63,8%), and

- 227 women (36,2%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 75,9 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 168 patients of the disease are treated in the hospitals of OKYPY COVID-19, of which 62 in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 62 patients in serious condition, 22 are intubated, 6 are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 34 to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive incidents Covid-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 112,532 diagnoses made, 10,963 were made by molecular method (PCR) and 101,569 by the method of antigen rapid test, 917 cases of the disease were identified. COVID-19, which emerged as follows:

  • 58 cases of 6,661 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 223 cases from 4,076 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 14 cases from 218 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 467 cases from 72,156 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 155 cases from 29,413 samples examined by the method of antigen rapid test through the program of the Ministry of Health.

In addition, the following tests were performed, without detecting a case:

  • 0 cases from 8 samples received under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
