Coordinated operation to implement the decree to close a building and ban its use for housing, was conducted between the hours of 6 p.m. - 10.40 p.m. yesterday, by members of the Foreigners and Immigration Service of the Headquarters and the Nicosia, Larnaca and Limassol Branches, the MMAD, the Pera Chorio Police Station, as well as officials of the Ministry of Social Welfare.
During the operation, which took place at an establishment in the industrial area of the Island, 62 foreigners were identified, of whom 60 were political asylum seekers, one asylum seeker and one person arrested for entering and staying in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.
The area was evacuated on the basis of the relevant decree and the 60 asylum seekers were transferred to the Reception Center for Political Asylum Seekers in Kofinou, while one person was transferred to the Pournara Reception Center.
