The cases of coronavirus are constantly increasing in the Gymnasiums as well, said the President of OELMEK Themis Polyviou, in his statements to KYPE.

Asked to comment on the measures announced yesterday by the Government to combat the coronavirus pandemic, Mr. Polyviou said that the Central Board of OELMEK is meeting today to discuss, among other things, the measures taken, as well as the developments for the pension .

Asked if the organizations will meet again with each other and with the Ministry of Finance, the President of OELMEK said that the organizations are expected to have a meeting next week and added that they will seek a meeting with the General Director of the Ministry, if possible with the Minister of Finance.

Asked if they agree with the measures taken by the Government yesterday regarding the schools, Mr. Polyviou said that there is a commotion in the schools and in the Gymnasiums and Lyceums.

"In the Gymnasiums, because unfortunately the cases of both students and teachers are constantly increasing, and the colleagues are upset. They expected that the Gymnasiums would be closed and home education would take place. And for the Lyceums there is a commotion because they try to get organized and be ready from a week when the home education starts, because unfortunately there are still problems with the school facilities and with the laptops, which many children do not have, and with the obsolete computers of the schools ", he added.

All these things, continued the President of OELMEK, are problems that must be solved.

"There are also issues pending how the teachers in four or five schools will work. If they will constantly move and do their homework from the school they will go to or stay at the school where they are based and work from there. We hope to clarify all this to see what happens. But the situation in the High Schools is now tragic. "Since this morning, I can tell you, I received 50 phone calls from colleagues from the Gymnasiums, who are sounding the alarm about the fact that there is a serious problem in the Gymnasiums as well", he noted.

Regarding the measures taken for the schools, Mr. Polyviou said that as is the data, the Organization expressed its views, described the situation, "but you understand the decisions are made by the experts, this is not a matter of consultation with OELMEK. the thing".

"We cite the reality that prevails in schools and epidemiologists and the Ministry of Health are the ones who make the decisions," he added.

Answering a question whether they will contact the Minister of Education to raise the issue of high schools, the President of OELMEK said that next week they will probably meet with the Minister to discuss issues other than the pandemic, such as the issue of evaluation. , which is an issue that will be opened now, and of teachers, and the issue of children's evaluation will be completed, "and certainly in this context, everything related to the pandemic is always relevant before we get into other issues".

Asked what will happen with the issue of the four months, Mr. Polyviou said that for the four months it is an issue that will be discussed at K.D.S. of OELMEK.

"We believe that as the situation evolves there should definitely be a second plan, a second plan to see what we do, because there will be problems, two and three speed students will be created. "The Ministry is definitely preparing and is doing well to be ready, but on the other hand there must be a preliminary draft BD, so that if the situation worsens to the worst, we can take the appropriate decisions," he concluded.
