The conclusion that as the National Vaccination Plan against it evolves Covid-19 both cases are reduced and hospital indicators are improved, is found in Cyprus based on the data of the period from April 26 to May 14. Especially at older ages where vaccination coverage exceeds 80%, the number of cases remains stable at very low levels since March, while hospitalizations at these ages have declined sharply. At the same time, there is a gradual decrease in the number of cases and hospitalizations and in the ages 50-69, who has received at least 1η dose of the vaccine a significant percentage of citizens.

As is clear from the chart below, the benefits of vaccination are evident in age groups with a high rate of vaccination coverage. In the age groups that are characterized as more vulnerable to the virus (older people), a very low percentage of cases has been recorded for several weeks. A gradual decrease or even stabilization in the number of positive cases is observed in the other age groups as their vaccination shielding progresses. This has the effect of gradually reducing the number of people who are seriously ill and consequently hospital admissions, significantly relieving the Health System.

At the same time, the percentage of vaccination coverage per Province is increasing, with Paphos having the fibers with 46,6%. They are followed by Nicosia with 43,7%, Larnaca with 42,3%, Limassol with 41,7% and Famagusta with 40% (data until May 14, 2021).

The Vaccination Plan is progressing rapidly and with the aim of shielding at least 1η vaccine dose 65% of the population within 1th 2021. Closer to the goal set by Cyprus in relation to the goal of the European Union, our country tomorrow completes the process of making an appointment for vaccination for people aged 18 and over, earlier than originally planned. The Vaccination Portal will then be open to different age groups to re-schedule appointments for those who have not done so before.

Vaccination with 1η vaccine dose reached 15% by May 43,9 (324,573 people), while at the same time 14,7% (108,789 people) have already completed their vaccination regimen. In Cyprus they took place from 27 December 2020 until 15 May 2021, 433,362 vaccinations, ie 49,3 doses of vaccine are administered per 100 inhabitants.

The perception that Vaccinations and adherence to simple personal hygiene measures are our only way out of the crisis of the coronavirus pandemic, is increasingly pervasive in society. THE positive response of citizens to the huge effort for vaccination is the main reason our country is in the first places among the EU Member States in terms of vaccination coverage and takes decisive steps towards fulfilling the goal he has set for returning to a functional daily life safely.
