The arrival of a large number of travelers from Britain should not be expected, after its placement in Category B 'regarding the coronavirus, said today the Deputy Minister of Tourism Savvas Perdios, adding that Cyprus is still a safe destination for visitors.

In statements during his visit to Voroklini and asked about the fact that Britain has been included in category B regarding the arrival of visitors to Cyprus, Deputy Minister of Tourism Savvas Perdios said that "the opening of the British market from August 1 as category B does not mean anything special for us, since the tour operators do not currently include Cyprus in their program because a coronavirus test is required in advance ".

He added: "It is a start for this market, there are people who want to come from Britain to Cyprus, even if they need the test, but one should not expect that we will be able to have large numbers of tourists from the British market, as long as the country is in Category B ". From a health point of view, he noted, "Britain, like many other countries, has been evaluated, expressing the assessment that" since the Ministry of Health has said that it is okay for people to arrive from this country, we are convinced that this is the case ".

He added that "both the British and Cyprus have been very patient to be here now. I can not say that it is an event that needs special importance in relation to other markets, since for Britain the procedure followed was followed for the other markets as well ".

Regarding the provision of a negative coronavirus certificate by the British visitors, Mr. Perdios said that "this does not concern us and the Ministry of Tourism will not proceed with any action. The government is clear that no nationality will be able to take the test in Cyprus unless it is proven that this possibility does not exist abroad. The information from Britain is that it may be a little difficult to secure this certificate, but it is just as difficult and even more difficult for other foreign countries. " As he noted "our policy will continue".

To another question, the Deputy Minister of Tourism replied that "we should be proud of the way we have handled the situation. We are already seeing other countries, such as Spain, making serious setbacks, and where the British tour operators wanted Spain to open without a test, today, three weeks later, we see that it has virtually stopped in Spain asking anyone repatriated to Britain to come. this country, to remain in self-limitation for two weeks ".

Savvas Perdios also said that "I do not think that Cyprus has made wrong decisions in this area, I think we have made very good decisions, strict but for the good of all of us and those who visit our country. It still needs a little patience, we are here to welcome the people with steady steps and Cyprus remains a safe tourist destination ".
