The epidemiological data in Cyprus is referred to in his statements to the Guardian newspaper by the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Savvas Perdios, expressing the assessment that Cyprus deserves to be on the green travel list of the British Government.

"We feel we deserve the green class as soon as possible. The positivity index but also the R index is lower than the United Kingdom itself, so we have better statistics from the United Kingdom and we have the best statistics in the Mediterranean regarding the coronavirus variants ", says Mr. Perdios, emphasizing that the The progress of the vaccination program in Cyprus is one of the largest in Europe.

As he adds, "if we are going to sit down with these great statistics but not recognize all the work we have done, it will just lead to frustration."

Mr Perdios also says that since tourism needs planning, "it would not be a bad idea if at least an expected date was given" by the British government for the smooth resumption of international leisure travel.

He also points out the risk of increased prices for tourists if they are forced to book their holiday at the last minute.

Mr. Perdios characterizes as "tragic" the loss of revenues from tourism at a rate of 85%, as reported by the newspaper.

A Guardian report from Limassol states that the absence of British tourists is evident, with the manager of a large hotel stating that there is a demand for frustrated British prospective visitors. As he notes, "people just want to travel - the volume of our bookings from August to October is currently higher than it was in 2019."
