The General Assembly POVEK states in a statement that as an Organization it has set a basic principle that the taking of any sanitary measures should be at the same time accompanied by measures to support businesses and the economy.

Unfortunately, he notes, this basic principle, which applies to all European countries, does not apply in the case of Cyprus.

"Apart from the employment support programs that workers would receive anyway, such as unemployment benefits, all other problems were left to autopilot and the pessimism that the pandemic would soon end," he added.

We are, he notes, in the 10th month of the crisis, the pandemic is galloping and the new stricter measures are just around the corner.

"In an artful way, the responsibility and the wrong manipulations are shifted to the citizen and the companies. "A climate of terrorism is being created to implement measures and protocols, and suicides, poverty, impoverishment, business closures and the tragic state of the economy are being silenced."

POVEK calls on the Government to assume its responsibilities and provide immediate solutions to the issues of rents, evictions, divestitures, liquidation of installments, suspension of installments where and where necessary, to put an end to the blackmailing policies of the Banks, even and to consistently borrowers over time.

In conclusion, the Organization notes, in this crisis some have been left unscathed, some have speculated on the backs of others and the vast majority of employees and businesses are going through extremely difficult times in an environment where uncertainty "kills".

Addressing the President of the Republic, POVEK states that "the slogan" The Crisis wants a Leader "must be transformed into actions and actions that confirm it, not only in matters of health but also substantial support of the economy and businesses."
