Dale Wasserman's iconic play "The Cuckoo's Nest" will be presented on November 13 by the Central Stage of the Satirical Theater, directed by Neoklis Neokleous.

A timeless work, deeply social and political, with moving and at the same time tenderly comic scenes, it reflects on the imprisonment of the spirit and the leveling of the individual personality of each, directly touching on an element that marks human existence: diversity and the right to it.

It is a flawless unconventional drama and a cry of agony and despair against any form of oppression and violence, where people are turned into objects, where free will is abused and all forms of physical and psychological rape are legitimized.

"One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" was written by Dale Wasserman in 1963 and is based on the classic Ken Casey novel. It premiered on Broadway in 1963, was made into a 1975 feature film by Milos Forman and stars Jack Nicholson and won five Oscars. He first appeared in the Satirical Theater in 1998, with Stelios Kafkaridis in the role of McMurphy.

It unfolds in a psychiatric clinic dominated by a terribly leveling and violent establishment. Abuse of power and manipulation are expressed in the face of the tyrant's head, Nurse Ratchet, who morally and socially mutilates patients, dismantles their personalities, and deprives them of any right to liberty. But bringing the charismatic Randall McMurphy to the clinic will upset the apparent calm and stir up other patients to claim their freedom and the right to have a say in their lives and health.

McMurphy's clash with nurse Ratchet will be inevitable and a relentless war will break out between them. A war between the humanity of freedom and the unspeakable cruelty of blind power.

The play of the Satirical Theater deals with the right to desire and how destructive to human nature is the cruel oppression, social racism and repression of the personality.

Its aim is to communicate to the public man's need for resistance and his refusal to compromise with any orders that degrade and manipulate him, depriving him of the freedom of his existence. Man with the power of his will and his stubbornness can bring revolution and change, not only personally but also socially.
