As every year, this year too, the Cyprus Police, in view of the festive period of Christmas, New Year and Epiphany, remains committed to the service of society, in order to ensure the safety of the public that will move on the road network and prevent any criminal acts. to the detriment of citizens (burglaries and thefts, property crimes, car thefts, car thefts) who will be in public places and busy shopping streets.
During the above period, the Police staff will work continuously and tirelessly with increased patrols (motorized and pedestrian) and checks on the main highways and the secondary road network.
Traffic arrangements - Traffic on the road network
Due to the expected increase in traffic during the holiday season, the presence of the Police on the main roads of cities and especially on interurban roads / highways will be strong. During traffic checks, it will be displayed zero tolerance, in the four main causes of serious and fatal road accidents involving speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, not wearing a seat belt and helmet.
It will also be given special emphasis on other serious traffic offenses, such as not free hands while driving, negligent overtaking, reckless, dangerous or negligent driving, violation of traffic lights, failure to observe a normal traffic lane, non-giving priority to pedestrians at pedestrian crossings.
Measures to protect the property of citizens
- During the holidays there may be an increase in the commission of some crimes against the public. Therefore, the Police, in the context of its precautionary policy, calls on the public to be especially careful and advises citizens, when they are in public places and busy shopping streets, to do the following:
- When they walk they have their money and credit cards in the front pockets of their clothes and it would be good to have with them not large sums of money, but the absolutely necessary.
People who carry bags, do not put all the money, credit cards, passports, etc. inside them, while the bag is preferably placed in such a way that there is constant visual contact with it (eg cross). - In cases where they visit shopping malls and stores, be especially careful when entering the testing rooms and do not leave their personal belongings exposed.

Citizens are also urged to take precautionary measures to more effectively guard their homes and shops as follows:
Homeowners:
When they are away from home, do not leave clues that betray their absence.
- Make sure the house is well locked and work with neighbors of their trust to monitor each other's homes.
- Do not leave the keys on the locks, not even on the inside of the door.
- Do not leave exposed, under any circumstances, money, jewelry, important documents or other valuables, which are essentially the primary target of the perpetrators, and where possible, keep them in a suitable safe.
- Make sure they have secured doors, windows and skylights.
- If they have an alarm system and / or a closed circuit television, make sure that they have been switched on and that they have not been damaged.
- We also remind you of the dangers of posting personal data on social networking platforms. Posts, which leave indications of the absence from the home should be avoided, because without the owners wanting, they target themselves resulting in becoming targets of burglars.
Store owners:
- The cash registers of their stores should be open and without content
- Do not leave large sums of money in doubtful places
- Do not leave their property exposed
- Have provided, if possible, the installation of alarm systems

- In the case of electrical appliances, record the serial numbers of the manufacturer (Serial numbers).
Car thefts and car thefts:
The Police underlines once again the multiple dangers that lurk from not taking precautionary measures for the safe storage of motor vehicles.
In particular, the public is invited to:
- Do not leave bags, briefcases, cell phones, laptops or any other valuables in conspicuous places inside the car, even if it is locked. The mere fact that they are visible to the perpetrators is a motive for committing the theft.
- Under no circumstances should the car be in operation when the driver or other occupants are not in it.
- Always lock the doors and fully raise the windows, even if the car is parked in front of your home, in a safe place.
- Always park his car in places where there is adequate lighting. Dark or secluded spots make the task of the astute easier.
- Never leave the keys on the starter or on the door, even if it will be absent for a very short time.
- To set an alarm in his car.
- Where there is a garage to be used.
- If there is a need to leave objects in the vehicle, place them in a safe place or in the luggage compartment.
Campaigns to crack down on gambling offenses, e-gambling and offenses related to the law on private security offices.
