Almost one in two Cypriots "can not stand" a week's vacation (image)

Almost one in two Cypriots, over the age of 16, cannot afford a week-long vacation away from home, a number that ranks our country in the 4th worst position among EU member states. European Statistical Office (Eurostat) for 2019, the European average of those who said they could not afford to go on a week-long vacation rose to 29%.

The worst position among the EU member states is occupied by Romania (54%), while the top five is completed by Greece (49%), Croatia (48%), Cyprus (45%) and Italy ( 44%).

On the opposite bank, at the lowest point of the scale, is Sweden with only one in ten Swedes (10%) saying they can not pay for a week off. They are followed by Denmark and Luxembourg (both by 11%), Finland (12%) and Germany and Austria (both by 13%).

It is noted that compared to 2010, the percentage of people who could not take a week off from home decreased in all Member States except Italy and Greece. The largest declines were in Latvia, Malta, Bulgaria, Poland and Estonia.
