The Organization of Public Health Services (OKYPY) is gradually closing the COVID wards in the hospitals with the restoration of the wards and beds to their previous condition and the disposal of patients with other diseases, the Spokesman of the Organization Charalambos Charilaou told KYPE. He stressed that the General Hospital of Famagusta will remain as a Reference Hospital.

He said that the COVID wards at the General Hospital of Paphos have been closed and the clinics have been given back to their specialties, while within a few days the ward at Polis Chrysochous Hospital will be operational with the return of doctors and nursing staff.

The pathology ward of the Limassol General Hospital has also been given back, he noted.

Mr. Charilaou stated that "there is an action plan, which provides for the gradual rehabilitation, always meaning the gradual transfer of COVID beds where they are not needed in the clinics to serve patients with other diseases".

He noted that the situation in the hospitals of OKYPY is clearly improved. "A number of patients under 100 are being treated. We hope that in the coming days we will see a further reduction, so that we reach a point where most of the services we will offer will be for the other diseases and not for COVID," he added.

Asked if there will be a new wave in September and October, Mr. Charilaou said there is no complacency. "What worries the world is the various mutations of the virus and that is why we are prepared, there is an action plan, in case of need, which we avoid, at any time during the year to fold and offer our services ", he added.
