The Plenary Session of the Parliament convenes in the last session of its term

The agenda is "loaded" with important legislation

The Plenary Session of the Parliament convenes from 10.00, in its last session, with the present composition, since at the end of the session, by its Decision, it will dissolve itself, according to the Constitution, in order to proceed with the procedures for the parliamentary elections in May.

The agenda is "loaded" with important legislation and will be all day, with a break from 13.00 to 14.00.

The current Parliament completes its term stubbornly, with 55 MPs as election court decisions considered unconstitutional the filling of one seat of the Solidarity Movement by the first candidate in the party ballot in Limassol, George Papadopoulos, as the incumbent choosing to retain its seat in the European Parliament.

The present Parliament was also marked by the resignation of the initially elected President of Dimitris Syllouris, in whose place the current President of Adamos Adamou was elected.

The session for some of its members, including the first among equals, Adamou Adamou, will be the last in the legislature as they do not reclaim an election, and will have the appropriate emotional charge.

Also, the present Parliament, due to a pandemic, was marked by the fact that for almost a year it meets outside its natural space, at the Hospitality Conference Center, in order to comply with the measures imposed by the decrees of the Minister of Health to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Among the important pieces of legislation on its agenda, at least two regulations are expected to be tabled for urgent voting. One concerns two bills to change electoral laws and relates to the names of the parties that will be included on the ballots.

It will also have before it a draft decision for the publication of the interim conclusion of the research committee for the Investigation of the Naturalizations.

Among the important pieces of legislation that are expected to be enacted in laws is the bill on state guarantees for loans of 1 billion. euro, the first supplementary state budget for 2021, amounting to € 250.000.000, legislation concerning extensions to overdue debts, and a series of draft laws concerning sales, which are subject to the adoption of the bill for the relevant amendment of the Law on Courts. The Ministry of Justice in a letter dated yesterday informed the Parliament that it is withdrawing it.

Among the important laws to be passed are the Establishment of a Ministry of Social Welfare, the law on the Establishment and Operation of an Independent Anti-Corruption Authority, the law that harmonizes Cypriot legislation with the Istanbul Convention for the Suppression of Violence against Women and of Domestic Violence, the law on Protection from Harassment and Harassment Surveillance.

Also, the Plenary Session of the Parliament is called to adopt the legislative framework for the autonomy of the Fire Service, legislation for the regulation of the "lobbying" activity.

The legislature in its last session has a number of harmonizing pieces of legislation, including the Consumer Protection Bill and Solid Waste Management Bills.
