In this context, the Speaker of Parliament "welcomed the steps taken in the UAE, noting at the same time the legislative reforms promoted by the House of Representatives on human rights and gender equality."

He noted, however, that "there is still a long way to go before conditions of full equality can be achieved."

Ms. Dimitriou underlined that "the empowerment of women and the equal representation of the two sexes in the decision-making centers, as key components of democracy, are a high priority of her and the House of Representatives".
