Two people who tried to smuggle large quantities of cigarettes and tobacco abroad without paying the necessary duties were arrested by the police.

The couple were to leave Paphos Airport on Wednesday night for a UK airport.

An X-ray of their luggage revealed a large number of smuggled tobacco products for which no duties had been paid. Specifically, 87 packs of cigarettes and a pack of tobacco weighing one kilo were found.

The two were arrested and taken into custody.
