A day with loud messages for the General Health System can be characterized as yesterday, since from 7:00 in the morning and before the lists for the registration of beneficiaries officially open (the official start was set for 9:00 in the morning), tens of thousands Citizens entered the "Beneficiary Portal" of GESS to register in the Beneficiary register and choose their personal doctor.

As a result, the Health Insurance Organization was put on alert, which literally in the morning was confronted with the collapse of the GESS website due to overcrowding and, of course, the Organization's call center caught fire with citizens asking .

However, the security mechanism of the Organization, as well as the support technicians of the System acted at a fast pace and around 10:00 in the morning the citizens were given an alternative entrance gate to the GESS.

By 1:00 pm around 15.000 citizens had registered and by 5:00 pm the number had exceeded 30.000, to exceed 40.000 late at night with the flow of registrations being continuous, as the mobility at the Beneficiary Portal was still is increased until the early morning hours.

Indicative of the interest of the citizens was the fact that immediately after the publication of the alternative "gateway" of admission to the System, up to 400 registrations of beneficiaries per minute were recorded, a rate which of course fell over the hours.
He was working tirelessly yesterday at OAY and for the completion of the list of personal doctors of GESS, since the process of signing contracts is still in progress.

With the opening of the lists, the names of 244 doctors were posted all over Cyprus and by noon the number reached 271. The continuous flow of names increased the number of available personal doctors to 290 by 6:00 in the afternoon and the registration of others was pending. 90 adult personal physicians, most of whom are expected to sign their contracts today.

Mobility in the System was recorded from very early in the morning and by the doctors, as several personal doctors, who had done their preparation by informally filling in the lists of their beneficiaries, also tried to register their patients in the register of beneficiaries and thus complete formally the process on their own.

The increased interest of the citizens naturally surprised the officials in charge of the Health Insurance Organization, whose officials hurried to clarify to the citizens that the registration process has no expiration date and therefore the registrations in the System and in the lists of personal doctors can to continue in the next period. After all, as the deputy director of OAY, Andreas Papakonstantinou, explained, "over time, the number of available doctors will increase and therefore the citizens will have more choices of doctors at their disposal".

The Minister of Health, Konstantinos Ioannou, described the increased interest of the citizens as a message "for the citizens' anticipation for the implementation of the GESS and their impatience for the implementation of the System".

"With today, and despite the war and the climate of denial that has been cultivated in recent months by some, the GESS is taking shape and we are moving towards the gradual implementation of our goals," said Mr. Ioannou, referring to the difficulties that will arise. , especially in the first months of the implementation of the GESS, he explained that "the GESS is no exception to the rule that says that in any reform of this magnitude anywhere in the world, no matter what is attempted, problems arise."

Volunteers in the Health Centers of OKYPY

The competent officials in the State Health Services Organization are also working feverishly, since in the case of the personal doctors of the State, the citizens will have to choose their doctor and register in his list. From next Tuesday, volunteers from the Pancyprian Federation of Patients and Friends will be at the Public Health Centers to assist in the whole process, given the fact that the patients at the Health Centers are mainly elderly people who may not have access to the internet.
