DISY President Averof Neophytou announced his intention to be a candidate for President of the Republic in the upcoming Presidential elections
"Fellow citizens. Today I want to inform you about my intention to be a candidate for President of the Republic. That is why I submit the corresponding proposal to the competent bodies of our party ", he states in a statement, accompanied by a video with the announcement.
Mr. Neophytou adds that the Democratic Alarm is the faction that guarantees social, political and economic stability. With his decision to choose a candidate on March 12, he notes, he enables the Government to proceed unhindered to the completion of its important project.
"I want you, like you, to live in a country that thrives by exploiting everyone's potential, without discrimination or exclusion. A Cyprus with a clear horizon for tomorrow. Beautiful, free, open to the future. "That reflects the dignity of its inhabitants and provides them with every opportunity for a better life", says Mr. Neophytos in his announcement. He also wishes 2022 to be the year of political culture and substantial dialogue for Cyprus the next day.
He also states that "with the sacrifices of our fellow citizens, the right moves of the Government and the formation of majorities in Parliament, we managed to make our country stand on its own two feet in difficult times. "So Cyprus can make the leap in the future."
He adds that "if our country prospers tomorrow, it will depend today on our willingness to make responsible decisions and our ability to take action."
He also states that only a modern and competitive Cyprus ensures that "our life - and the lives of our children - will be better". He adds that the first step is already being taken, with a series of reforms for a new economic model, healthier and more sustainable.
He also notes that "we have a lot ahead of us", such as planning a green and fair development for the next day, which will not leave anyone behind. It also refers to the betting of the digital transition and the technological transformation of the state in order to better serve the citizen.
He also speaks of the need for modern local government that will guarantee a high quality of life, in cities and communities, and the demand for a faster justice system, for institutionalized transparency.

"Above all, we have an obligation to continue to fight for the liberation and reunification of our homeland," he added.
"In our ambitious collective goals, our opponents were and are populism, extremism and discord. "Lies are bad: good intentions, good theories and public relations are not enough," he said.
He adds that the problems are dealt with with knowledge, systematically forging the widest possible consensus, but also putting the political parties before their responsibilities.
"For 30 years in the central political scene, with patience and moderation, I bring results with a positive sign in our country. I never hid. I never avoided going forward. "With clean positions and clean solutions, for the benefit of society and the economy", says Mr. Neophytou.
It is noted that the Politburo of the Democratic Alarm has decided to convene a meeting of the Supreme Council on March 12, 2022, to elect the person who will be supported by the Democratic Alarm in the next presidential election.
