Ministry of Health: 3.901 people have been vaccinated so far in Cyprus

On the occasion of the operation of the Vaccination Portal for COVID-19, which marked the start of the second phase of the National Vaccination Plan, with priority given to people over the age of 80, the Ministry of Health informs that the more than 3,000 appointments made yesterday for people belonging to the above population group , exhausted the same day. At the same time, vaccination continues in nursing homes / other institutions for the elderly and health professionals.

It is noted that for the vaccination in the Centers of Famagusta and Kyperounta, the distribution of appointments will begin on Thursday, January 7, 2021, while next Monday and on a weekly basis, the new appointments will be added to the Portal.

Based on the schedules set by the vaccine manufacturer and the European Commission, it is expected that 6,800 vaccine doses will be received on a weekly basis, corresponding to the coverage of 3,400 people per week.

The vaccinations in the second phase will be done in Vaccination Centers that operate all over Cyprus, after making an appointment through the Vaccination Portal and in the database of the demographic data of each Province, in order to ensure the equal distribution of the vaccines. To serve the citizens in the remote areas, mobile vaccination units will operate at points and dates to be announced.

Upon completion of the vaccination of persons over 80 years of age, the vaccination of persons over 75 years of age follows. It is recalled that the hierarchy of population groups was determined in accordance with the recommendations of the Scientific Advisory Committee on Coronavirus and on the basis of guidelines issued by the European Center for Infection Prevention (ECDC).

The capacity for vaccine coverage will increase depending on the licensing of vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency, under the six agreements concluded by the European Commission, and the deliveries by the manufacturers. It is recalled that Cyprus participates in all six agreements that have been concluded, with the orders it has submitted to be sufficient for the vaccination coverage of its entire population.

The first phase of the program was carried out by a total of 12 mobile units that operated in all the Provinces. The teams are staffed by trained and experienced health professionals, namely Health Visitors (3-5 per group depending on the number of vaccinated), doctor and nurse. In relation to nursing homes, ½ of all roofs have been covered and 70% of people who have expressed interest in vaccination have been vaccinated so far. The vaccination process in the shelters for the elderly is expected to be completed on Sunday.
