After 9 years (and production of 1,3 million units), the fourth generation of the Mitsubishi L200 pickup truck is preparing to give the baton to the fifth generation of the model that will make its European premiere during the 85th Geneva International Motor Show.

A strategic model for Mitsubishi, the L200 has evolved into the "Ultimate Sport Utility Truck" that achieves new levels of reliability, durability, comfort and flexibility to meet the ever-changing needs of global pickup truck customers.

The main features of the European version are as follows:

Engine-performance

The new aluminum supercharged 2.4 MIVEC diesel (4N15) thanks to its better operation offers 17% less CO2 emissions. The CO2 emissions of the outgoing L200 are further reduced to at least 169 g / km in conjunction with the new six-speed manual transmission.

The 4N15 delivers 180 hp (133 kw) / 154hp (113 kw) (and 430 Nm / 380 Nm respectively) at low revs and offers remarkable performance even with a loaded vehicle. The variable geometry supercharger with small turbine provides improved response and driving pleasure with the new 6-speed manual transmission and the paddles (controls on the steering wheel) of the automatic transmission.

Exterior design

Maintaining the sporty features of its predecessor, the exterior design of the new L200 displays a dynamism reminiscent of a well-trained athlete's body. The exterior design contributes to a lower aerodynamic coefficient of 0,40 Cd and increased fuel efficiency.

Interior

The interior is noticeably quieter thanks to the new diesel engine the increased sound insulation materials used. This means that front and rear passengers can talk and be heard even on highway routes or on rough roads.

Larger body bases and elongated rear suspension springs offer an incredibly smoother driving experience with reduced vibration.

Significant upgrade of the perceived quality in combination with the better seating positions and the driving position for a better driving experience.

Flexible handling and superior flexibility

The new L200 moves flexibly and achieves a turning circle of 5,9m like its predecessor.

Stamina

Utilizing the know-how from the previous model, the reliability and durability of the new L200 have been increased by improving and strengthening the body structure.

In combination with the 7% higher torsional rigidity of the frame, it withstands the harsh operating conditions of the pickups in a wide range of terrains and conditions.

Safety

Improved active safety: The SS4-II (Super Select 4WD II (with low gear, permanent 4WD) achieves better cornering stability, even on rough roads drivers can select one of four drivers by turning the selector knob.

Active Stability & Traction Control with Trailer Stability Assist and Hill Start Assist, Lane Departure Warning systems offer the driver a relaxed driving experience.

HID headlights (with integrated LED daytime running lights and Bi-Xenon headlights) offer superior visibility even in winter or night driving.

Passive safety: Passive safety has been increased with seven airbags, including side and curtain (roof) for the front passengers and an additional driver's knee protection airbag.

New features, such as (availability depending on market and model):

- Rear doors are added for greater comfort in the Club Cab.
- Keyless operation system with stop / start switch.
- Customizable Cruise Control.
- Dual zone automatic A / C.
- Paddles on the steering wheel.
