The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Nikos Kougialis stated on Thursday night that "as our economy stabilizes and develops through bold decisions and determination, the time has come for our rural world to be led to the development it deserves." .

In his greeting at the provincial conference of the Nicosia Agricultural Association, and referring to the Rural Development Program 2014-2020, Mr. Kougialis also said that in the framework of this Program an amount of € 243 million will be allocated. “Of which € 132m. come from the European Union, while the remaining amount of € 111m. will be made available by the Republic of Cyprus ”.

He said that through the program's activities, among other things, "600 new jobs will be created, 170 companies will be strengthened and 1.800 farms will be supported".

Mr. Kougialis noted that "through the reform and the treatment of its long-standing problems, the agricultural sector can contribute significantly to the economic development not only of the state but also of our agricultural potential and we will move in this direction."

He pointed out that the Government of Nikos Anastasiadis has given priority to the revitalization of the countryside and the upgrading of the agricultural sector in our country. "In order to achieve this goal as the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, we are moving forward and planning the agricultural sector compatible with modern conditions. An area that will aim at sustainable development, environmental protection and will be based on science, dynamism and extroversion ", he added.

According to the Minister of Agriculture, “the development prospects of our primary and rural sector are high and, above all, realistic, while in our effort to strengthen and upgrade the countryside and our agricultural economy, as a Ministry beyond the Rural Development Program. 2014-2020 we have in our hands another very important tool, the Farmers' Register ".

Mr. Kougialis said that “the establishment and operation of the Farmers' Register after years of consultation, creates for the first time the conditions of a truly targeted Agricultural Policy with additional scoring in investment programs, strengthening agricultural oil and direct payment of aid to farmers by profession. , giving new perspectives for the farmer and the countryside ".

Concluding, he said that Panagrotikos is next to the Farmer "and responsibly stands as a partner in the efforts we make as a Government for the necessary modernization and upgrading of our primary sector".
