Prosecutor General Costas Clerides requested the appointment of an investigating officer to examine the possibility of committing disciplinary offenses by Prosecutor Eleni Loizidou regarding her e-mail to Russian authorities in a letter to the Council of Ministers.

In a statement, the Presidency of the Republic states that during tomorrow's session, the Council of Ministers will appoint an investigating officer to investigate the issue that has arisen.
Costas Clerides also confirmed to the Cyprus News Agency that he also asked the Chief of Police for a criminal investigation into the possibility of committing criminal offenses for interception and publication of telecommunications data.
The case was brought to light by a Russian website and concerns dozens of e-mails sent and received by prosecutor Eleni Loizidou.
According to the messages, Eleni Loizidou is said to have special relations with the Russian prosecutor's office and to comment on decisions that seem to affect Russian interests.
He is also said to be giving legal advice to a Russian official.
Yesterday, the Attorney General Costas Clerides removed the prosecutor from the Fugitives Publishing Department of the Legal Service.
