Parliament to convene to consider re-introduced law on low-income retirees

The Council of Ministers, in its session today, approved an Amending Bill on the Law on Minimum Guaranteed Income and on Social Benefits in General, which has been submitted to the House of Representatives for consideration under the urgent procedure.

According to a statement issued by the GTP, the bill concerns persons who received a low-income allowance when the Social Benefit Register was created in July 2014 and, despite the written notification of their obligation to submit the relevant application, did not submit their application within the deadline. which expired on November 30, 2014.

Pursuant to the provisions of the proposed bill, these persons will again have the opportunity to submit, if they wish, the relevant application for the low pensioner allowance until 31/12/2018 and to be evaluated based on the data valid at the end of the initial like all other beneficiaries of the low-income allowance.
The bill sets the safeguards so that this right is not given to those who have alienated large amounts of deposits and receive an allowance given to households that are below the poverty line.
The Plenary Session of the Parliament will convene extraordinarily before or after Christmas, to consider the referral of the law for the low-income pensioners, which was voted into law by the Parliament.
Pursuant to Article 51 of the Constitution, the Plenary Session, within fifteen days of the referral, decides whether to accept it or not.
The General Director of the Parliament, Vasiliki Anastasiadou, stated to KYPE that the Parliament will convene as provided by the Constitution within the next 15 days, on a date to be decided either before or after Christmas.
Before the plenary session of the Parliament, the Parliamentary Labor Committee is expected to convene to examine the reasons for the referral of the law, as stated by the President of the Republic, in the letter accompanying the returned law, and to prepare a report to the Plenary.
