The personal envoy of the UN Secretary General for Cyprus, Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar, expressed her readiness to contribute to the resumption of the process on the Cyprus issue and to finding common ground between the two sides, in her statements after her first meeting with the President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulidis, in Nicosia.

In her statements to journalists after the meeting, Ms. Holguin said she was excited about her mission and noted that she comes from a country where a 50-year conflict finally ended in a peace agreement and that she herself was part of the team that achieved the agreement.

"I think I can cooperate and do my best so that there is a good result for Cyprus," he said.

The meeting at the Presidential Palace lasted around one hour, while a four-to-four meeting lasting about 20 minutes followed between Ms. Holgin and President Christodoulidis.
