The Director of the Customs Department, Dimitris Hatzikostis, appointed the Council of Ministers as an investigating officer to examine the possible commission of disciplinary offenses by Prosecutor Eleni Loizidou regarding the exchange of electronic messages with the Russian authorities.

The appointment, requested by the Council of Ministers in a letter, the Attorney General Costas Clerides, was announced by the Deputy Government Spokesman Viktoras Papadopoulos.
Asked to comment on the case, Mr. Papadopoulos stressed that in the midst of an investigation, the Government has nothing to say.
Regarding the time frame for completing the research, he pointed out that there is legislation that defines it. He added: "I believe in sixty days."
In parallel with the appointment of an investigating officer for possible disciplinary offenses, the Attorney General asked the Chief of Police to investigate the possibility of committing criminal offenses related to interception and publication of telecommunications data.
