Tsavousoglou's statements yesterday in the Turkish National Assembly that the parameters in the solution of the Cyprus problem need to be changed prove what our side said about the intransigence of Turkey, said President Anastasiadis.

He reiterated that Turkey insisted on keeping guarantees, invasive rights and troops, while some third parties, outside Cyprus, were trying to create the image that Turkey was accepting the parameters of the UN.
Asked if he was concerned about Tsavousoglu's statement that an attempt should be made to recognize the pseudo-state, the President replied that what he knew was that efforts were being made to resume the dialogue.
However, he said, if some believe that the parameters should be changed or that the solution should include guarantees, invasive rights and the stay of troops, then this will lead to direct or indirect control of Cyprus by Turkey and will make Cyprus its protectorate. .
He stressed that this goes beyond the limits we are negotiating so far and if the people honor him with their vote, these are the limits that will be negotiated in the future.
President Anastasiadis visited the camps of ELDYK in Malounda and Lieutenant General Tassos Markos in Kliros in view of the Christmas holidays. Speaking to the National Guard, he said he was proud of the operational capacity of the ELDYK and the National Guard, which not only ensures the defense of Cyprus but allows it, as he said, to negotiate with confidence. He wished that 2018 is the year of resolving the Cyprus issue with a solution without guarantees, armies and invasive rights with the European acquis and human rights guaranteed.
