President Anastasiadis denounced the Turkish violations accepted by the Republic of Cyprus in the exercise of its sovereign rights in its Exclusive Economic Zone.
In statements after the meeting, the President of the Republic said that he had the opportunity to inform his partners about the discoveries in the region which are a very important development, and which with the Eastmed pipeline, can be a source of security in the European Join.
He expressed satisfaction with the understanding he had of the existence and strengthening of a better Europe, adding, however, that this was hindering the continuation of a European problem that had remained unsolved for 44 years.
What remains a common goal, said President Anastasiadis, is to find a mutually acceptable solution to the Cyprus problem on the basis of European principles and the European acquis, so that by creating a truly independent country, beyond guarantees, invasive rights or occupying armies, everyone can the inhabitants of Cyprus, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, to enjoy the goods of Europe.
Tsipras' position on the Cyprus issue
The Prime Minister of Greece, Alexis Tsipras, stated that at the meeting he stressed the importance of a fair and sustainable solution to the Cyprus problem, but also the need for the Aegean to become a sea of peace and cooperation.
After all, he pointed out, more and more European security is based on the Aegean. That is why, said Mr. Tsipras, it needs to be an area of peace and cooperation, where international law is respected by all our neighbors.
