The Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Athina Michailidou, and the new Board of Directors of the Cyprus Sports Organization found an understanding on all issues during the first, formal, meeting they had today. The new President of the KOA, Yannis Ioannou, also emphasized that as 2024 is an Olympic year, they want to give all the guarantees to the athletes of the Olympic and Paralympic sports to achieve their goals and to have as much participation as possible in Paris 2024.

The new Board of Directors of the Cyprus Sports Organization, headed by its President, had its first formal meeting with the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Athena Michailidou, at the Ministry of Education on Monday morning.

In her statements after the meeting, the Minister of Education, after saying that today they had a first formal, but constructive meeting, with the new Board of Directors of the KOA, she then thanked the outgoing Board of Directors of the Organization for the kind cooperation they had .

Referring to today's meeting with the new KOA Board of Directors, the Minister of Education said that they have laid the foundations for their regular communication, noting the necessity for this, so that they can implement important actions of the governance program.

"First of all, let's have a specific work plan, with actions, costing and schedules, so that in the next period we will see the implementation of important things for our sport. It is a very important development for us that we start dynamically. We all have a common understanding that a renewal is needed for the field of sports. Healthy sports should be included in schools from a very early age, that is, to be connected with education, but also later with the youth, to support our athletes who are the protagonists of all this effort and for the Ministry to assist in all the work it will do the CMO", he added.

Mrs. Michailidou wished good success to the KOM Council, the President and the members.

"We will be by their side in this effort, with a very - very specific goal, through actions that will fully utilize the funds based on our program statements", he added.

The President of the KOA, Yannis Ioannou, in his statements, thanked the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, for the huge, as he said, hug with which she welcomed them today.

"We had a first formal meeting, but in essence it also focused on issues that concern us all. It is very important that there is consensus on all issues. We have decided to have regular sessions to implement the government program in terms of sports,” he said.

Since we are running an Olympic year, "we want to give all the guarantees to the athletes of the Olympic and Paralympic sports to achieve their goals and to have as much participation as possible in Paris 2024. We are sure that with the close cooperation with YPAN we will succeed to take Cypriot sports one step further", Mr. Ioannou concluded.
