The easy way to find the right ratio of water and rice

Why use (and wash) a second utensil when all you need to make rice is one?
This has preoccupied many cooks out there, professionals and amateurs alike, so they have come up with a simple way to find the right proportions of rice and water with just that. The clean finger, alas.
So place the index finger on the bottom of the pot and fill it with rice until its surface reaches the first phalanx of the finger.
We then take the pot, put it under it and fill it with cold water until it reaches the second phalanx of our index finger.
This trick easily gives us the usual ratio for one cup of rice per two cups of water. Without soiling cups…
