Young people travel to Europe for free - Beneficiaries and deadlines

Registration for free tickets has begun

young EU, young people, travel

All young people aged 18 in the EU can apply for free tickets until 26 October. The program is supported by the EP and the Discover the EU initiative

If you are 18 years old, a European citizen and you want to discover Europe and its culture, this is your chance.

The idea was originally proposed during the European Youth Event (EYE) in 2014 and thanks to the support of MEPs, 70.000 young people, aged 18, received free tickets to travel to the European Union from June 2018.

Exceptionally, young people aged 19 or even 20 who were eligible for the two rounds of 2020, which were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, are also allowed to apply this year.

About "Discover the EU"

Online applications will remain open from 12 October 2021 at 12:00 (Central European Summer Time) until 26 October 2021 at 12:00 (Central European Summer Time).

The offer is open to European citizens born between 1 July 2001 and 31 December 2003.

Participants will be able to travel for up to 30 days in at least one EU country between 1 March 2022 and 28 February 2023.

To be eligible, applicants must answer a short multiple-choice quiz about Europe.

The trips will be made mainly by train, but also by bus and boat, to ensure wide access. Flights will be allowed in exceptional cases where there is no other mode of transport (eg people coming from very remote areas).

Participants with reduced mobility and / or special needs may be selected for additional assistance (eg cost for a companion or companion dog for the visually impaired).
