Athletics champion Eleni Artymata announced her retirement from athletics and the end of her career.
In a statement on social media, she wrote, “I'm not crying because it's over. I'm smiling because it happened. This beautiful and long journey for me is over and finds me as I had dreamed. Happy. I announce the end of my sports career proud, for what I achieved and also for what I did not achieve because I know that I always tried and gave 100%".

I thank my federation KOEAS, the KOA for supporting me since I was a small child, through the good times and the hard times.
I would like to thank my coach Antonis Giannoulakis for everything we experienced during these years, my husband and family who stood by me from the beginning to the end and of course I will always be grateful to my biggest fan, my late father".
