They are one of the most beloved, suitable and long-lived couples in Hollywood, as they count 31 years of marriage and continue. The reason, of course, is Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, who in the glamorous world of Hollywood are an example to follow and a model of family happiness.

However, behind their successful marriage are some secrets, which from time to time the famous actor has shared in various interviews.

So, if you want a happy and strong marriage that will last over time, here are the secrets, according to Tom Hanks.

Support each other even in the most difficult moments

All these years, the couple went through various trials which they overcame together. The most difficult time for them was in 2015, when Wilson was diagnosed with breast cancer. The Greek-born actress had confessed in an interview that she was afraid of how her husband would react and how this news would affect their relationship. But she was wrongly worried, as Hanks stood next to her rock, showing all his support and admiration in her "battle" with the disease.

"All I can do is bow to my wife," he said. The actress overcame the illness shortly after.

Also last March, they were both diagnosed with coronavirus at the same time and overcame this difficult situation together again.

Do not get married before you are 30 years old

The couple first met in 1985 during the filming of Volunteers, where they starred in love. The two had a relationship outside of movies, but then Hanks was married with two children and Wilson was engaged. Just 3 years later, after the relationship they kept secret, the actor divorced his wife and proposed to Wilson.

Today, Hanks says he failed in his first marriage because he was young, impulsive and working full time. He also believes that a real marriage should be a conscious decision and not an impulsive one. "Do not get married before you turn 30," the actor advises.

Share your partner's beliefs

Hanks was a Catholic and Wilson was a Greek Orthodox. Knowing how important religion was to his wife, the actor embraced her faith. "I sacrificed something for my wife. Rita has Greek roots and has the Orthodox faith. "And I was a Catholic, so before I got married I embraced her faith out of deep respect for her family," she said.

Also, the couple recently acquired Greek citizenship.

Do small, nice things for your partner

"I see my wife as my mistress and we have a bond that goes beyond words like wife or girlfriend or mother. I can not imagine my life without it. I often leave notes for her near the phone or somewhere in the kitchen. I wish you good morning and things like that. "I write notes about her using the old typewriters I collect - I have over a hundred," said Tom Hanks.

Love your partner for what he is

The actor often expresses how much he appreciates and admires his wife. "This woman loved me when I was thin and she loved me when I was fat. He loved me bald and he loved me with his hair. This woman loves me, I know. "That is why I am a lucky person."

And he emphasizes that loving your partner for what he is is the "key" to success in a marriage.
